As we get into the holiday season, it's crucial to keep an eye on your credit cards, bank statements and online accounts.
But did you also know you need to watch your phone? Your door? Your utility bill?
Utility scams are becoming quite common: scam artists use increasingly sophisticated and scary tactics:
- They may threaten to turn off your power,
- Rig caller ID to make it look like the call is from your utility provider; or
- Instruct you to put the money on a prepaid debit card and/or ask for your card number.
Don’t believe it.
